BOOKS AND STUDY AID is a project to equipped school libraries in rural communities in Cameroon for some specific schools in Muyuka Sub Division. This Sub Division consist of at least ten villages with at least 14,000 (student + pupils) but with empty libraries. This Libraries will also be available to the communities during weekend. The Library will consist of books, computers and other study aids. There are primary and secondary schools in these villages with empty or no library. However, few secondary schools with scanty libraries can only contain a maximum of ten to twenty students at any point in time. Libraries now at days are becoming a centre of connectivity, networking and community activities. However, access to books is still a major service that libraries do offer. But students and pupil’s in rural communities in Cameroon do not have access even to their own text books or books at any level and any subject.
It can be difficult to put an end to the book famine in Africa and Cameroon in particular.
However, this journey of a thousand miles will always begin with a step. According to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), 40 percent of school-age
children in Africa do not attend school. Forty-six million African children have never set foot in a classroom. The case of Cameroon is not that different even though the government is opening schools in almost every village with the world development index indicating school dropout in Cameroon at 48%. However, most of these schools are under staffed and often crowded with untrained teachers. Books for Africa which is a charity organisation trying to reduce the book famine in Africa said “Most African children who attend school have never owned a book of their own. In many classrooms, 10-20 students share one textbook”. Rural communities in Cameroon are typical examples of this scenario.
The importance of reading books cannot be underestimated. It keeps you informed around your environment and the globe, it increases your vocabulary, gives you a critical mindset among others which in total can inspire you to become an entrepreneur. There are at least 14,000 children, pupil’s and students living and going to school within Muyuka Sub Division. Without your help, many will never have access to books. Without your help, another generation of rural children will grow up without books. Please help CEED CAMEROON give the priceless gift of learning to children in rural communities.
An estimated cost of £700 is expected to ship 1000 books to Cameroon from the UK. Your donations in any of the forms listed below will help us send even more books to schools in rural communities in Cameroon. This will benefit the students and entire community who are hungry to read and willing to learn but are limited by their access to books. These schools and rural communities will leave to remember the impact that your donations to BOOKS AND STUDY AID have done to their communities.
